From 1 August 2025, several financial and regulatory changes are coming into effect across India impacting everything from digital transactions to fuel and travel costs. Whether you rely on UPI, fly frequently, or use LPG and CNG at home, these six key updates are expected to directly affect your monthly expenses and financial habits.
Here’s a full breakdown with real facts, impact analysis, and how you can prepare for these changes.
1. UPI Rules Change: Limits on Balance Checks & AutoPay
In a bid to reduce server load and enhance transaction stability, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is implementing strict limits on certain UPI functions starting 1 August 2025.
Key UPI changes include:
- Balance Check Limit: Users can check their account balance only 50 times per day.
- Linked Account View: You’ll be limited to viewing account lists 25 times per day per UPI app.
- AutoPay Time Slots: UPI AutoPay requests will now only be processed during:
- Before 10 AM
- Between 1 PM to 5 PM
- After 9:30 PM
- Transaction Status Checks: You can only check the status of a single transaction 3 times in 2 hours, and each check must have a 90-second gap.
2. Commercial LPG Cylinder Becomes Cheaper
From 1 August 2025, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have reduced the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹33.50.
Updated LPG Price:
- Delhi: ₹1,631.50 (down from ₹1,665)
This marks the fifth consecutive month of price reductions:
- July: ₹58.50 cut
- June: ₹24 cut
- May: ₹14.50 cut
- April: ₹41 cut
Although the reduction doesn’t apply to domestic 14.2 kg cylinders, it offers some relief to restaurants, tea stalls, and other small commercial setups.
3. CNG & PNG Prices May Rise
No changes have occurred in CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) or PNG (Piped Natural Gas) prices since April 2025, but several state-run and private gas companies have signaled a price hike from 1 August.
If prices increase:
- Taxi, auto-rickshaw fares may rise.
- PNG users at home will face higher monthly bills.
- Small business delivery and logistics could see a cost push.
4. Flight Travel May Become Costlier
The price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), which is revised monthly, is also expected to increase on 1 August 2025. Fuel costs make up nearly 40% of an airline’s operational budget.
Implications:
- Airfare for both domestic and international flights may go up.
- Budget carriers may adjust ticket prices and baggage fee slabs.
- Travellers planning for August vacations should consider early bookings.
If you’re flying in August, book your tickets before price hikes hit the booking systems.
5. SBI Ends Free Air Accident Cover on Select Credit Cards
The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced that it will discontinue free air accident insurance on co-branded credit cards starting 11 August 2025.
Affected cards include partnerships with:
- UCO Bank
- Central Bank of India
- Karur Vysya Bank
- Allahabad Bank
Previously, these cards offered coverage ranging from ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore for accidental air travel-related deaths. Policyholders must now purchase separate travel insurance plans.
6. FASTag & Bank KYC Rules Change
A couple of important changes are being rolled out for FASTag and banking users:
a. FASTag Toll System Upgrade
- A new annual pass model and toll payment interface is being piloted in select cities.
- If successful, this may replace the per-trip FASTag charges with fixed annual tolls for frequent highway users.
b. Bank KYC Update Mandate
- Punjab National Bank (PNB) and similar institutions are now enforcing stricter KYC verification.
- Customers must update KYC (ID proof, address) on time or risk service disruption.

These changes are meant to streamline digital banking and reduce toll fraud — but may cause temporary inconvenience if not followed promptly.
How These 6 Changes Impact the Common Man
