A man in Norway woke up to a shocking sight. Unexpectedly, a 443-foot cargo ship had run aground just meters from his home. This bizarre scene unfolded early Thursday morning near Trondheim, Central Norway. As a result, photos of the ship quickly went viral.
A Wake-Up Call Like No Other
Johan Helberg was asleep in his home when his neighbor suddenly knocked on his door. Annoyed at the disturbance, he finally opened it.
“Have you not seen the ship?” the neighbor asked.
Helberg ran to the window and was shocked. Indeed, a giant cargo ship, the NCL Salten, rested right outside his front yard.
443-Foot Vessel Stops Just Short of Disaster
The massive ship sailed straight onto shore. Surprisingly, it stopped just a few meters from Helberg’s home.
“I had to tilt my head back to see the top of it. It was so unreal,” Helberg said.
Normally, ships turn into the fjord to avoid homes. But this one came straight toward land.
Neighbor Heard the Crash and Rushed Over
Jostein Jorgensen, Helberg’s neighbor, heard the ship around 5:00 AM. Without hesitation, he ran to warn Helberg.
“I thought Johan was outside, but he wasn’t. I rang the doorbell many times but got no answer,” he said.
Eventually, he called Helberg on the phone to wake him up.
Ship Remains Stuck, Authorities Investigate
The ship remains stuck by the house hours later. Fortunately, the 16 crew members escaped injury.
Meanwhile, authorities launched an investigation to find the cause of the accident.
So far, no one knows why the ship veered off course.
A Bulky New Neighbor Brings Humor
Despite the drama, Helberg kept his sense of humor.
“It’s a very bulky new neighbor — but it will soon go away,” he joked.
