IndiGo Launches Direct Mumbai-Adampur Flights from July 2, 2025: Boost to Trade, Tourism, and Connectivity
India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has announced a significant addition to its domestic network — direct flights between Mumbai and Adampur (Jalandhar), Punjab, starting July 2, 2025. This move is aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and stimulating trade and tourism between Punjab and Maharashtra.
Key Highlights of the New Mumbai-Adampur Route
- Route Launch Date: July 2, 2025
- Adampur becomes IndiGo’s 92nd domestic and 133rd overall destination
- From Mumbai, Adampur will be the 55th domestic and 77th overall connected destination
This route forms a critical part of IndiGo’s vision to bridge regional gaps and expand its air travel network to underserved areas.
Why Adampur? A Strategic Location in Punjab
Adampur Airport, located between Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur, has become a crucial regional hub under the government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. Operational since May 2018, the airport is seeing a steady increase in passenger traffic, with 35,220 passengers flying through it between April 2024 and March 2025.
The airport’s proximity to National Highway 3 (NH-3) adds to its strategic importance, supporting both commercial and civil aviation activities. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has developed a full-fledged passenger terminal to support the growing demand.
Official Statement from IndiGo
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, shared:
“As Adampur becomes our 55th domestic and 77th overall destination from Mumbai, the new route will boost connectivity and economic opportunities. We will continue to enhance our domestic network, catering to the rising demand for air travel in the region.”

IndiGo’s Domestic & International Expansion Plans
The airline is on an aggressive growth path:
- Four new domestic destinations are being added to IndiGo’s route map, expanding from 91 to 95 domestic cities
- International Launches:
- Direct flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam starting July 2025
- Operated by leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft
- These flights mark IndiGo’s entry into long-haul operations
New In-Flight Services
In a first for IndiGo, hot meals will be served on selected long-haul international routes, improving the in-flight experience for passengers.
Aiming for Market Leadership in International Travel
Currently, 55% of India’s international flights are operated by foreign carriers, with only 45% by Indian airlines. IndiGo aims to reverse this ratio and become the go-to choice for Indian travelers for both short-haul and long-haul international routes.
CEO Pieter Elbers also emphasized the airline’s commitment to gender equality, highlighting that 15% of IndiGo’s pilots are women — the highest ratio in the global aviation industry.
What This Means for Travelers and Businesses
- Faster and direct connectivity between Punjab and Mumbai
- Increased trade opportunities for exporters and businesses
- Boost to tourism in North India
- Wider options for domestic and international travel
The Mumbai-Adampur route is more than just a flight addition — it’s a strategic move towards inclusive regional development, economic growth, and better travel experiences. With this and several upcoming launches, IndiGo continues to redefine Indian aviation by reaching the underserved and connecting India to the world.
