Tarn Taran, Punjab | June 6, 2025 — In a major breakthrough against cross-border terrorism and arms smuggling, the Punjab Police has successfully busted a Pakistan-linked weapon smuggling module operating out of Tarn Taran district. The operation, carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, has led to the arrest of two key accused and the recovery of sophisticated firearms.
Arrests Made in Tarn Taran: Two Smugglers Nabbed
The accused have been identified as:
- Surajpal Singh
- Arshdeep Singh
Both were apprehended from Village Lakhna, located near the Indo-Pak border. Their arrest is considered a significant blow to trans-border smuggling networks that have been active in the region.
Weapons Recovered: PX5.30 and Glock Pistols
The Tarn Taran Police recovered a total of six sophisticated pistols from the accused:
- 2 PX5.30 Beretta pistols
- 4 Glock 9mm pistols
- Along with live cartridges
These weapons are typically used by professional hit squads, indicating a high-level and well-funded operation with direct cross-border linkages to Pakistan.
FIR Registered, Probe Underway
The Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that an FIR has been registered. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the backward and forward linkages in this illegal operation.
“Punjab Police remains committed to neutralizing such modules and ensuring the safety and security of the state,” read the official statement by DGP Gaurav Yadav.
Background: Punjab’s War Against Drugs and Weapons
The latest seizure is part of an ongoing multi-pronged crackdown under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign, spearheaded by the Punjab Police.
High-Level Strategy Meeting
On Wednesday, a high-level review meeting was convened to evaluate the campaign’s performance over the last three months. The meeting was attended by:
- Special DGPs
- ADGPs
- IGPs
- DIGs
- Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs)
- Commissioners of Police (CPs)
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) presented a comprehensive report focusing on enforcement outcomes, rehabilitation programs, and community engagement efforts.
“Our mission is to build a safer, healthier Punjab, free from the menace of drugs,” DGP Yadav emphasized in his post.
Previous Operation: Drug-Arms Seizure Near Attari, May 28
In a related operation on May 28, the Punjab Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested three drug traffickers:
- Maninderjit Singh
- Peter
- Lovejit Singh @ Raja
They were intercepted near Shankar Dhaba on Attari Road, close to the Indo-Pak border. Recovered items included:
- 4 PX5 Storm pistols
- 521 grams of heroin
- 7 magazines
- 55 live cartridges
An FIR under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act was registered at PS ANTF, SAS Nagar.
“@ANTFPunjab is actively pursuing both forward and backward linkages to dismantle the entire network,” DGP Yadav said.
