Contest on Nilambur Seat

From the Nilambur seat:

  • LDF has fielded M. Swaraj
  • UDF has nominated Aryadan Shaukat
  • BJP has put up advocate Mohan George as its candidate

This by-election is being held due to the resignation of independent LDF MLA PV Anwar, who later joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC). UDF candidate Aryadan Shaukat expressed confidence in his victory. He alleged that the state government has neglected the Nilambur area, especially in matters of tribal resettlement and human-animal conflict.

Ludhiana West Seat (Punjab)

The Ludhiana West Assembly seat in Punjab became vacant following the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. Gogi died by suicide in January 2025, leading to the need for a by-election. In this election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Jeevan Gupta as its candidate, while Aam Aadmi Party has nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora. This contest is considered to be a close fight between the two major parties.

Visavadar and Kadi (Gujarat)

By-elections are also being held on the Visavadar and Kadi Assembly seats in Gujarat, where major political parties have fielded their strong candidates. On the Visavadar seat, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Kirit Patel, Congress has nominated Nitin Ranpariya, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has chosen its former Gujarat state president Gopal Italia as its candidate.

Meanwhile, on the Kadi seat, BJP’s candidate is Rajendra Chavda, Congress has fielded former MLA and 2012 winner Ramesh Chavda, and AAP has nominated Jagdish Chavda. Both these seats are witnessing triangular contests, with all parties putting in full efforts to secure victory.

The results of all by-elections will be declared on June 23, 2025.
