Hamdan bin Zayed has reviewed the comprehensive strategy of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority along with the detailed plan for the upcoming Liwa Dates Festival 2025, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural legacy.
In a recent meeting held at Al Seef Palace in Abu Dhabi, Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, received a delegation led by Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority. The meeting was part of the broader vision of the UAE’s leadership to strengthen national identity through heritage-based initiatives.
Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority’s Strategic Framework Unveiled
During the meeting, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority presented its strategic framework, which includes over 62 projects and 231 activities. The Authority’s vision revolves around embedding heritage deeply in the lives of citizens while bridging generations with cultural pride.
Hamdan bin Zayed emphasized that safeguarding Emirati heritage and passing it on to future generations is both a national and societal responsibility. This aligns with the long-standing vision of the country’s leadership to preserve heritage as a source of inspiration and unity.
According to officials, the strategy not only focuses on the promotion of poetry and heritage talents but also aims to empower the heritage economy through support for traditional crafts and industries. Another crucial objective is to increase the global presence of Emirati heritage on the cultural stage.
Emirati Heritage: A Pillar of National Identity
Hamdan bin Zayed reiterated that this cultural focus stems from the directives of President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has consistently placed Emirati heritage at the heart of the UAE’s nation-building efforts.
He also lauded the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority’s initiatives and personnel for working tirelessly to keep Emirati traditions alive while aligning programs with the aspirations of the community. He called for enhanced public engagement and outreach, encouraging broader community participation at both local and global levels.
Liwa Dates Festival 2025: A Key Cultural and Economic Event
A significant part of the meeting focused on plans for Liwa Dates Festival 2025, an iconic event in the Al Dhafra Region. The festival attracts more than 116,000 visitors annually and supports over 450,000 attendees across all regional cultural events.
The 21st edition of the festival has a budget exceeding AED14 million, and features 23 competitions, including those for dates and summer fruits. The event’s total prize pool exceeds AED8 million, further incentivizing local participation and excellence.
Hamdan bin Zayed praised the role of the festival in stimulating local economies, supporting farmers and productive farms, and boosting tourism in the region. The palm tree, central to the festival, symbolizes the UAE’s rich historical and agricultural heritage.
Community Engagement, Traditional Markets & Cultural Empowerment
The Liwa Dates Festival 2025 will also offer dedicated zones for traditional markets, heritage crafts, productive families, and participating entities. These spaces are designed to promote community involvement and to instill a strong sense of cultural responsibility in future generations.
By celebrating the palm tree, indigenous craftsmanship, and regional farming expertise, the festival acts as a catalyst for cultural preservation and intergenerational transmission of values.
The review by Hamdan bin Zayed of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority strategy and Liwa Dates Festival 2025 plan marks a decisive moment in the UAE’s ongoing commitment to cultural preservation. With robust support from leadership and a clear strategy that includes hundreds of activities, the focus is now on intergenerational identity-building, economic empowerment through heritage, and positioning Emirati traditions on the global stage.
Through this initiative, the UAE continues to demonstrate that heritage is not only a memory of the past but a foundation for the future.
