Kamal Haasan Welcomes Verdict in Anna University Sexual Assault Case
Actor and politician Kamal Haasan praised the court’s decision in the Anna University rape case. The judge sentenced the accused to 30 years in jail without parole. This is one of the harshest punishments in a recent Tamil Nadu rape case.
Kamal Haasan Supports the Judgment
Kamal Haasan posted his response on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote:
“I fully support this verdict. The court gave the accused 30 years in jail without parole. We must never allow crimes against women. This decision gives hope that such criminals will face real punishment.”
Many people echoed his views. They want quick and strict action in such cases.
Court Sends Accused to Jail for 30 Years
The court found Gnanasekaran guilty. Judge M Rajalakshmi sentenced him to 30 years of life imprisonment without any chance of early release. She also imposed a ₹90,000 fine.
On May 28, the court had already confirmed his guilt under 11 serious charges.

Public Prosecutor Marry Jayanthi said:
“The court accepted all the evidence. The police team worked hard. They quickly finished the investigation and filed the charges. Today, the court delivered justice.”
Details of the Case
The crime happened in December last year. A second-year student was raped on the Anna University campus. The case shocked the public. The Chennai Police arrested the accused soon after the victim reported it.
The survivor bravely testified in court. Her statement helped prove the crime.
CM MK Stalin Praises Police and Legal Team
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin praised the quick action. He thanked the police, legal team, and other officials. He also shared a post on X:
“We promised strong action against such crimes. This verdict shows we kept that promise. The police moved fast. The court gave justice. We will always stand for women’s safety.”
He also criticized the opposition for trying to politicize the issue.
