On the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday to lead the celebrations. The historic event took place at Jamboree Maidan, where a massive gathering of women, adorned in traditional yellow and Sindoori sarees, welcomed the Prime Minister during the ‘Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan’.
PM Modi’s Tribute to the Legendary Queen
PM Modi paid floral tribute to Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, recognizing her enduring contributions to Indian society, culture, and women’s empowerment. Prior to the main event, he also visited an exhibition showcasing Ahilyabai’s life, works, and vision—a chronicle of her rich legacy that continues to inspire.
The Prime Minister was also felicitated at the Mahasammelan, which was attended by thousands of women from across the state, marking the significance of the occasion.

Ahilyabai Holkar: A Visionary Leader and Pioneer of Women Empowerment
Ahilyabai Holkar is widely remembered for her people-centric leadership and visionary reforms. She encouraged women’s education and active participation in social and religious life, breaking barriers at a time when women’s roles were largely limited. She empowered local women artisans, particularly by promoting the production of Maheshwari sarees, which are still a cultural symbol of Madhya Pradesh.
Her legacy includes:
- Reconstruction and renovation of temples across India
- Development of infrastructure such as roads, water bodies, and dharamshalas
- A lifelong commitment to welfare and justice, particularly for marginalized communities
Her efforts left a lasting mark on India’s cultural and spiritual landscape, making her one of the most revered queens in Indian history.
Women’s Empowerment and Operation Sindoor
The massive turnout of women at the Mahasammelan also resonated with the recent success of Operation Sindoor, India’s strong military response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The symbolic choice of Sindoori attire by the attending women paid homage not only to Ahilyabai’s legacy but also to the courage and strength of modern Indian women.
Major Development Projects Inaugurated
During the event, Prime Minister Modi also launched several major infrastructure and connectivity projects:
- Virtual inauguration of the Indore Metro
- New airports in Datia and Satna
- Foundation stones for multiple development initiatives
These projects reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to modernize infrastructure and improve connectivity in Madhya Pradesh.

The 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar was not just a celebration of a historical figure—it was a powerful reaffirmation of India’s commitment to women’s empowerment, cultural heritage, and development.
