The discussions centered around potential opportunities for expanding the reach and growth of Indian Railways, particularly highlighting Paraguay’s keen interest in importing India’s state-of-the-art ‘Vande Bharat’ trains.

Paraguay’s Interest in Vande Bharat Trains

The President of Paraguay expressed a strong enthusiasm for India’s ‘Vande Bharat’ trains — a symbol of India’s ‘Make in India’ campaign and technological advancement in rail transport. This modern train, developed and manufactured domestically at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, represents India’s capability to design and produce high-speed, efficient, and passenger-friendly trains.

What is Vande Bharat Express?

Launched in February 2019, the Vande Bharat Express was introduced on the New Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi route. This semi-high-speed train can travel at speeds up to 160 kmph and offers a travel experience similar to the prestigious Shatabdi trains but with enhanced features and passenger comfort.

Designed completely in-house by Indian engineers and manufacturers, the train was developed in just 18 months using advanced computer modelling and collaboration with multiple suppliers. The focus has been to enhance the productivity and performance of railway assets and manpower while ensuring reliability, availability, utilization, and efficiency.

Advanced Features of Vande Bharat Trains

The Vande Bharat train boasts several innovative features that make it stand out:

  • Intelligent Braking System: Enables smooth acceleration and deceleration for better control and safety.
  • Automatic Doors: All coaches are equipped with automatic doors for passenger convenience.
  • GPS-Based Audio-Visual Passenger Information System: Keeps passengers informed throughout their journey.
  • Onboard Wi-Fi Hotspot: Provides entertainment and connectivity during travel.
  • Comfortable Seating: Includes ergonomic seats, with the executive class featuring rotating chairs for enhanced comfort.

Invitation to Join Central Bi-Oceanic Railway Corridor

Apart from the interest in Vande Bharat trains, the President of Paraguay also extended an invitation to India to participate in the Central Bi-Oceanic Railway Corridor project. This ambitious project aims to connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through a railway corridor, promising enhanced trade and connectivity across continents.

Strengthening India-Paraguay Relations through Railways

This interaction between India and Paraguay signifies growing international recognition of India’s railway technology and infrastructure capabilities. The potential export of Vande Bharat trains and collaboration on international railway projects could open new avenues for bilateral cooperation, boosting economic growth and technological exchange.

India’s Vande Bharat trains, with their combination of speed, comfort, and advanced technology, exemplify the success of the government’s push towards self-reliance and innovation in transportation. The interest from countries like Paraguay underscores the global appeal and future potential of Indian-made railway solutions.
