The Last of Us Season 3: What to Expect From the Game’s Storyline

A Shocking End to Season 2
The Last of Us Season 2 finale was intense and emotional. Ellie (Bella Ramsey) almost drowned, escaped a lynching, and killed two people—one was pregnant. After all that, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) started hunting her. The season ended in the middle of the action. Then it showed a flashback from three days earlier. This shifted the story focus to Abby, setting up a big change for Season 3.
Season 3: Abby Takes the Lead
Season 3 will likely follow The Last of Us Part II game. Abby will be the main character. Like in the game, the story might split between Ellie and Abby. But most of the season could focus on Abby’s journey starting from “Seattle Day One.”
Season 2 was about Ellie’s quest for revenge. Season 3 might slow that down and show Abby’s side. This will help viewers understand her better. If the show stays true to the game, Ellie might appear less often in Season 3. She may only come back near the end.
Returning Characters and Abby’s Circle
With Abby as the focus, new characters will get more screen time. Ellie’s friends like Dina and Tommy may take smaller roles. Abby’s friends will return, even some who died in Season 2.

New Faces: Lev and Yara
Abby’s relationship with Lev and Yara will be important. Lev and Yara are Seraphite siblings who leave their cult. This is a turning point for Abby.
Lev is a 13-year-old trans boy and may become a fan favorite. Yara is his older sister and helps guide him. Their story adds emotional depth. Casting news for these roles will likely excite fans.
Goodbye to Joel (Probably)
Pedro Pascal’s Joel probably won’t return in Season 3. The game shows flashbacks of Joel in the second half. But the show gave most of Joel’s story to Season 2. This includes the emotional talk with Ellie on the porch.
Pedro Pascal has many big projects now. So, it seems he’s done with The Last of Us, except maybe a surprise cameo.

If Season 3 follows the game, it will be powerful but may divide fans. Abby’s story will take over. Ellie’s story will pause. Big battles between groups are coming.
