Trump Calls Putin ‘Crazy’ After Largest Russian Attack on Ukraine – Top15News: Latest India & World News, Live Updates

Trump Expresses Strong Criticism of Putin

US President Donald Trump has openly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin following Moscow’s largest aerial attack on Ukraine since the full-scale invasion in 2022. Trump said, “What the hell happened to him? He’s killing a lot of people,” and later described Putin as “absolutely crazy.”

Ukraine Faces Deadliest Night of Attacks

In the overnight attacks on Sunday, Russia launched 367 drones and missiles at Ukraine, marking the highest number of aerial strikes in a single night during the conflict. At least 12 people were killed, and dozens were injured across various regions.

Air raid sirens sounded across Ukraine early Monday morning, warning of incoming attacks.

Casualties and Damage Reported

n Kharkiv, a city in northeastern Ukraine, at least three people, including a child, were injured during the recent attacks, according to the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov. The situation remains tense as air raid sirens continue to sound, signaling ongoing threats in the region.

Meanwhile, in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, two individuals were reported injured, as confirmed by the regional head, Ivan Fedorov. This area has also faced significant strain due to the continuing aerial assaults.

On the other hand, in Russia, Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted two Ukrainian drones that were heading toward the capital. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this incident, but it highlights the ongoing security concerns within Russia as well.

Trump’s Stance on Sanctions and Zelensky’s Comments

Speaking from New Jersey, Trump expressed his long-standing acquaintance with Putin but condemned his recent actions: “He’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all.”

When asked about imposing tougher US sanctions on Russia, Trump responded, “Absolutely,” though previous threats had yet to translate into actual restrictions.

Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that Zelensky’s rhetoric “is doing his country no favours” and that “everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”

Diplomatic Efforts and Ceasefire Talks

Despite growing pressure from Kyiv’s European allies for more sanctions on Russia, the US continues to pursue peace negotiations or risks “walking away” if no progress is made.

Watch: Trump says he is ‘not happy’ with Putin over Ukraine attacks

Last week, Trump and Putin held a two-hour phone call discussing a US-proposed ceasefire deal. Trump described the call as “very well,” expecting Russia and Ukraine to “immediately start” negotiations toward a ceasefire and an end to the war.

Ukraine has agreed publicly to a 30-day ceasefire. However, Putin has only committed to working with Ukraine on a “memorandum” regarding a “possible future peace,” which Kyiv and European allies view as delaying tactics.

Current Status of the Conflict

The first direct talks between Ukraine and Russia since 2022 took place on May 16 in Istanbul, Turkey. These discussions marked a significant moment in the ongoing conflict, aiming to explore possibilities for peace and a ceasefire.

Aside from a major prisoner swap that occurred last week, there has been little progress toward achieving a ceasefire. The fighting continues with no immediate resolution in sight, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Currently, Russia controls approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory. This includes Crimea, the southern peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014, a move that has been widely condemned by the international community.
