Delhi Weather Update: 45°C Heatwave to Continue Till June 12 – Top15News: Latest India & World News, Live Updates

Delhi and North India Scorch Under Relentless Heatwave

As summer reaches its blazing peak, Delhi is currently enduring one of its harshest heatwaves of the season. With temperatures climbing to an oppressive 43.8°C and expected to rise even further, the national capital has been placed under an orange alert. The sweltering conditions are part of a larger regional heatwave gripping much of North India.

Delhi’s Slow-Burning Heat Siege

The heat in Delhi is no longer just seasonal — it has turned severe. The maximum temperature recently soared to 43.8°C, surpassing normal by 3.6 degrees. With the heat index rising, even basic daily activities have become physically taxing. The nights offer little relief, with temperatures barely dropping below 29°C.

The intense heat is attributed to the weakening of western disturbances. As they move out, they leave behind trapped moisture without triggering rainfall, leading to both high heat and humidity. The absence of monsoon winds has only worsened the situation. Humidity levels on Wednesday morning were recorded at 39%, and temperatures are predicted to climb close to 45°C again. An orange alert remains in effect, with warnings to avoid direct sun exposure, stay hydrated, and take care of vulnerable individuals.

Delhi’s Air Quality Adds to the Crisis

Adding to the discomfort, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) dipped into the ‘poor’ category, reaching 227. This level is known to cause respiratory stress, particularly among sensitive groups, and when combined with extreme heat, poses significant health risks.

Rajasthan Faces Even More Severe Conditions

While Delhi struggles, parts of Rajasthan are facing even more extreme weather. Ganganagar has recorded over 47°C for consecutive days. In response, a red alert has been issued for western Rajasthan, with an orange alert following on June 13 and a yellow alert in eastern areas shortly after.

Relief isn’t expected until mid-June when thunderstorms may bring minor cooling. Until then, the region remains under a dangerous heat dome.

Heatwave Expands Across North India

The scorching conditions are not isolated. Ludhiana is under a yellow alert, experiencing temperatures around 44°C. Himachal Pradesh, usually a haven of cool respite, is unusually hot. Una has hit 44.2°C, and even hill stations like Shimla and Manali are recording above-normal temperatures.

Some light rain is forecast for Himachal between June 13–14, which may bring brief respite, but dry heat is expected to dominate until then.

When Will Relief Arrive?

While the IMD has hinted at possible thunderstorms and gusty winds around June 12, these are uncertain and depend heavily on evolving wind patterns. Until then, heat and humidity are set to remain intense across the region.

Precautions for the Public

  • Stay hydrated and avoid caffeine or alcohol
  • Limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours (12–4 PM)
  • Check on elderly, children, and those with health conditions
  • Wear loose, light-colored clothing
  • Use cooling methods such as wet towels, fans, or shaded spaces

As North India continues to bake, the current heatwave serves as a stark reminder of rising climate extremes and the urgent need for preparedness and public awareness.
