No Equivalence Between Terrorists and Defenders
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said there is no equivalence between those who send terrorists and those who defend themselves. He criticized Colombia for expressing condolences only for Pakistan’s losses after Operation Sindoor. According to him, sympathy should be extended to victims of terrorism as well.
India’s Global Outreach in Colombia
Tharoor, along with a delegation of MPs, is in Colombia to strengthen India’s anti-terror message. He expressed disappointment over Colombia’s reaction, which focused on Pakistan’s losses instead of sympathizing with terror victims. The delegation is part of India’s effort to reach out internationally after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Proof of Pakistan-Sponsored Terrorism
Tharoor reiterated that India has clear proof of Pakistan-backed terrorism behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where 26 civilians were killed. He said India is exercising its right to self-defense. He also compared India’s experience with terrorism to Colombia’s, pointing out that both countries have suffered many terror attacks.
China’s Role in Pakistan’s Military Strength
Tharoor noted that China supplies 81% of Pakistan’s defense equipment. He highlighted that much of this equipment is offensive rather than defensive. He said India’s fight is against terror, not Pakistan’s military, emphasizing the link between terror and Chinese support to Pakistan.

Delegation’s Visit and Meetings in Colombia
The delegation, led by Tharoor, arrived in Colombia after visiting Panama and Guyana. During their stay in Bogotá, they will meet members of Congress, ministers, think tanks, and media. The team includes MPs from various parties and former Indian ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Background: India-Pakistan Tensions After Pahalgam Attack
Tensions escalated after the April 22 attack. India launched precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK on May 7. Pakistan responded with attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. Fighting ended after military talks on May 10.
Next Steps in Colombia
The Indian delegation plans to meet Colombian officials to share India’s perspective. Tharoor and his team aim to explain the full context of Operation Sindoor and seek global support against terrorism.
