The grand Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 enters its final phase today with the Bahuda Yatra, marking the divine return of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra to the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. To ensure smooth conduct, Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 is under an extensive security cover as lakhs of devotees are expected to participate.

This event signifies the completion of the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 and holds deep spiritual importance for millions of devotees. After spending a week at Gundicha Temple—considered the Lord’s birthplace—the three deities will journey back on their grand chariots, amid prayers, rituals, and chants of “Jai Jagannath!”

Over 6,800 Security Forces Guard Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025

To manage the expected surge in crowds, Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 has prompted deployment of 6,000 Odisha police officers and 800 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel across the city. This enhanced security arrangement follows a tragic incident on June 29, when a stampede near Gundicha Temple led to the unfortunate death of three people.

The entire city is now under high alert as authorities are determined to avoid any repeat. Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania is personally overseeing all arrangements to ensure a peaceful closure to Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025.

AI Surveillance and Crowd Management for Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025

A major innovation this year during Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 is the deployment of over 275 AI-powered CCTV cameras. These smart cameras will help law enforcement agencies monitor the movement of people and vehicles across strategic locations throughout Puri.

Special traffic arrangements have been implemented. Devotees without official passes are being redirected from Malatipatpur via ROB to Grid Station Chowk and then towards Talabania parking zones. A total of 21 large parking areas have been established to handle the influx of private and commercial vehicles during Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025.

Holy Rituals of Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 Begin at Noon

According to the official statement by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the return procession of the deities—locally known as “Bahuda Yatra”—will begin at 12 PM noon. The traditional “Chhera Panhara” or ceremonial cleaning of the chariots will be performed by the King of Puri, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. This is considered one of the most sacred acts during Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025.

The ritual of pulling the giant wooden chariots will commence at 4 PM, allowing the deities to return to the main temple from Gundicha Mandir.

Pilgrims Flock for Darshan Amid Pleasant Weather

On Friday, a day before the final procession, nearly 3 lakh devotees took darshan of the Lord at Gundicha Temple’s Adapa Mandap. The weather remained cloudy with brief showers, offering a cool and comfortable environment for pilgrims.

From early morning, devotees stood in long queues behind security barricades, chanting prayers and awaiting their turn for holy darshan. The spiritual energy in Puri is at its peak as Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 reaches its culmination.

205 Platoons and 6 IPS Officers Ensuring Safety

For Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025, the administration has deployed 205 platoons of police forces, including 50 platoons dedicated to traffic management. In addition, six senior IPS officers are assigned exclusively to the protection of the three chariots.

The area around Puri’s Grand Road (Bada Danda) has been fully barricaded and crowd control measures are in place. Both local police and volunteers are guiding devotees to designated darshan zones and parking areas.

Spiritual Journey Ends at Ratna Vedi

The return of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings, to the sanctum sanctorum—Ratna Vedi—marks the end of their divine outing to their aunt’s house at Gundicha Temple. This symbolic journey of returning from maternal home reflects reunion and completeness.

Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 is more than just a festival—it’s a spiritual voyage deeply etched in India’s cultural and religious heritage.
