T20 Mumbai League 2025: Suryakumar Targets

Cricket fans in Mumbai have reason to cheer again as the much-anticipated T20 Mumbai League 2025 kicks off today. The third edition of the league begins with matches scheduled at two iconic venues — Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. Leading the charge for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East (MNE) is India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who is determined to recreate the magic of their 2018 championship win.

“We Know How to Win It”

Speaking at the team’s jersey unveiling event in Worli, Suryakumar expressed full confidence in his squad’s ability to deliver. “We always play a tournament to win it. We won the first season in 2018, and many of those players are still with us,” he said. “All our players are playing 360-degree cricket. Just watch them for 10 minutes and you’ll know what I mean.”

Suryakumar’s passion for city-based leagues and grooming local talent was evident. He emphasized how familiarity with pressure situations and experience from the IPL would help guide the team through the upcoming challenges.

Clash with Shreyas Iyer on June 6

The drama is already building as Triumph Knights are set to face the SoBo Mumbai Falcons, led by none other than Shreyas Iyer, on June 6 at Wankhede. Just days ago, Iyer’s unbeaten 87 had knocked Suryakumar’s Mumbai Indians out of IPL 2025 in Qualifier 2.

When asked about this reunion on the T20 Mumbai turf, Suryakumar joked, “Is he SoBo’s captain? I didn’t even know,” before praising Iyer’s leadership. “He’s doing a great job with Punjab Kings in the IPL. He brings the same energy here — encouraging young players and leading by example,” Surya added.

Platform for Future Stars

Calling the league “special,” Suryakumar recalled his journey since the first season: “T20 Mumbai League has played a vital role in shaping careers. From India A, Ranji Trophy to the IPL, this tournament has been a launchpad for many.”

He believes Season 3 will not only offer exciting cricket but also spotlight emerging talent ready for the bigger stage. With teams full of domestic potential and seasoned pros, the TML promises thrilling matchups and surprises.
